In October 2016, Rebecca took part in the Fleet 10k in memory of her son Zachary. She raised an amazing £1715 for Farnborough Sands and to be used towards the Rowan Suite at Frimley Park Hospital. This is her and Zachary`s story: "When Paul and I went for our 20 week scan on April
8th, we had no idea how much our lives would change in the 10 days that
followed. We found ourselves helpless and needing the support and guidance from
so many medical professionals at both Frimley Park Hospital and the Evelina
Hospital London. I still struggle daily with what we went through and see our little boys perfect face whenever I close my eyes at night or have a moment without distraction. But I take comfort that he will never know pain or suffering and am so proud of the impact he made in our lives for the 22 weeks he was living inside of me. Giving birth to Zachary was the same for me as when we had Olivia, but this time we weren't bringing a baby home, just a memory box." The Rowan Suite was set up by the Farnborough Sands charity and is a dedicated place of sanctuary and comfort for parents and families that are going through the loss of a baby during pregnancy, birth, through medical complications or loss after birth.
The Suite also needs funds for moses baskets designed for small babies, cooling mat machines, and various upkeep of the suite as sadly it is in use frequently. Sands also provide parents with memory boxes consisting of a memory book, teddy's one for parents and one for baby, photographs, footprint/handprint cards, support books and a candle. These boxes cost an average of £15 so we are looking to raise money to ensure any parents that unfortunately will need use of the Rowan Suite will have those precious memories to take away with them and cherish forever. |
